Triode-type electron gun modulator

Miontech has been chosen by Polish National Centre for Nuclear Research as the supplier for two triode gun modulators for linear accelerators.
These devices were developed based on customer’s specification, giving uncompromised reliability, versatile digital interfaces and ability to operate the used electron guns over full range of parameters. Also, pulse-to-pulse switching between two user-defined presets is possible for dual-energy operation of the accelerator. The modulators are used for development of new types of accelerators at the Centre.

The main parameters of the device are:

Cathode voltage: -1 to -15 kV
Cathode current: up to 1 A (peak), up to 2 mA (average)
Grid voltage: -200 V (quiescent), -150 to +100 V (pulse)
Grid current: up to 250 mA (pulse)
Pulse duration: 1 to 10 μs
Pulse repetition: up to 500 Hz
Cathode filament: up to 6.3 V, up to 6 A (18 W max.), current or voltage regulation with soft-start
Digital interfaces: RS-485 (non-isolated) and Ethernet (100base-TX)
Signal connections: Interlock (in/out), trigger (BNC, TTL levels), energy selector (BNC, TTL levels)
Power supply: 100-240 V AC

The device is equipped with a metal case which can be used as bench-top, rack-mounted or custom-mounted in the accelerator. The HV connection is done via a detachable single plug. A long development process leaded us to fulfilling and even exceeding the required parameters.

The success of this project resulted in an order of an another modulator, which has been produced by the end of 2014. We enter 2016 with the development of a new model of a modulator with new capabilities and extended range of working parameters.
